A pedestrian was killed and at least 25 passengers were injured after a passenger bus overturned in Bahubal upazila. The accident occurred around 7:00 PM on Friday in the Dubai Bazar area of Putijuri Union.
The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Lokman Mia, a resident of Bhatpara village under Putijuri Union. He worked as a mason.
According to police and local sources, the accident involved a Mitali Paribahan bus traveling from Sylhet to Dhaka. An argument reportedly broke out between a passenger and the bus helper. The dispute later escalated into a heated altercation and physical scuffle involving the driver and helper.
As tensions rose, other passengers became frightened and began shouting, suspecting a possible robbery. Amid the chaos, when the bus reached the Dubai Bazar area, the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned on the road.
During the incident, the bus struck pedestrian Lokman Mia, killing him on the spot. At least 25 passengers were injured in the crash.
Local residents rescued the injured and admitted them to Bahubal Upazila Health Complex and other nearby hospitals.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Zahidul Islam of the Bahubal–Nabiganj Circle confirmed the incident. He stated that preliminary reports suggest the bus lost control before overturning, but a full investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
