The Bangladesh Nationalist Party, or BNP, won all four parliamentary constituencies in Habiganj district in Thursday’s 13th National Parliamentary Election, according to official results released by the district returning officer.
Voting began at 7:30 a.m. and continued uninterrupted until 4:30 p.m., with authorities describing the process as largely peaceful. No major violence was reported, though one incident in Mandari village in Baniachong upazila led to a two-year prison sentence for an individual involved in misconduct.
In Habiganj-1, BNP candidate Dr. Reza Kibria secured 111,999 votes under the party’s “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol. His nearest rival, Sirajul Islam Mirpur of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, received 56,132 votes, while independent candidate and former lawmaker Sheikh Sujat Mia garnered 34,637.
In Habiganj-2, BNP nominee Dr. Abu Mansur Sakhawat Hasan Jibon won with 126,583 votes. His closest competitor, Maulana Abdul Basit Azad of Khelafat Majlis, received 65,762 votes.
In Habiganj-3, BNP candidate Alhaj G.K. Gauch was elected with 142,348 votes. His nearest rival, Kazi Mohsin Ahmed of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, received 45,568 votes.
In Habiganj-4, former lawmaker and industrialist Syed Mohammad Faisal, also representing the BNP, won decisively with 188,072 votes. His nearest challenger, Gias Uddin Taheri of Bangladesh Islami Front, secured 84,323 votes, while Ahmad Abdul Qader of Khelafat Majlis received 26,466.
The results were formally announced by the district returning officer, Abu Hasnat Mohammad Arefin, at his office following the completion of vote counting.
